The Himalaya Ibex (Capra ibex sibirica)
occurs in a wide range of Asian mountains, in the Hindukush, Pamir,
Himalaya and the Karakorum mountains. In the past this species was
heavily hunted and especially during the construction of the Karakorum
Highway was threatened with extinction in the areas this highway
transects. Heavily protected by the game scouts of the Community Based
Sustainable Hunting Programme, this beautiful animal made a remarkable
recovery and can now be selectively hunted by the foreign sportsman. The
Ibex hunting areas are easily accessed and don’t require long, time
consuming expeditions; however the accommodation still consists of
rather basic tents or shepherd’s huts. These hunts can be combined with
hunts for blue sheep or Kashmir and Astor markhor, die idealist period
is however in the rutting season which ranges from December 20. to
January 10. The legal hunting period however ranges from November 1. to
March 31. |
